ONTARIO GOVERNMENT ACTIVATES 4-WEEK PROVINCE-WIDE ’EMERGENCY BRAKE’

The Ontario government is activating an “emergency brake” for four weeks across the province, including Toronto. The new measures take effect as of 12:01 am Saturday.

The measures include the following for tourism and hospitality businesses:

  • Restaurants are restricted to take-out and delivery, only
  • Non-essential retail can open with 25% capacity (unchanged for Toronto)
  • Essential retails (grocery, pharmacy, etc.) at 50% capacity (unchanged for Toronto)
  • Outdoor gatherings limited to 5 (previously 10 in Toronto)

FEDERAL BUDGET SET FOR APRIL 19: SEND YOUR MP A LETTER TODAY

The Canadian government will present Budget 2021 on April 19 at 4 pm. This will be the first official budget the government has issued since the start of the pandemic. You can read more about the Budget 2021 announcement here

The Tourism Industry Association of Canada is encouraging tourism and hospitality professionals to send their MP an email advocating for the industry. Now is the time to ensure the industry is prioritized, but that Toronto’s voice is well-represented.

April 8 is Global Meetings Industry Day – an initiative that celebrates the importance of meetings, conferences and events. We’ll be sharing more details early next week about how you can take part in GMID 2021. In the meantime, register today for Meetings Mean Business Canada’s virtual event next Thursday.
