DEPARTMENT NEWS: WHAT'S ON THIS MONTH
GLOBAL SALES AND SERVICES
Global Sales
Looking ahead to April, Global Sales is busy with a lot of in-market activity in the US market:
- DT dominates in San Francisco with a booth hosted by our in-market west coast Sales Director at MPI ACE Northern California Chapter Annual Meeting. Following the show, the SD with a Toronto Venue Partner, will stay on and conduct sales calls across California.
- Participating in citywide Hosted Buyer appointments at Connect Spring Marketplace.
- A DT Sales Manager is attending networking events with Third Party Planners from Prestige Events in Nashville, TN.
- Attending Destination Celebration in Minneapolis, MN.
- Toronto based Sales Directors and a Sales Manager will travel to Austin & Dallas Texas to conduct sales calls with target citywide and single-hotel clients.
- Sales Leadership are attending two strategic planning sessions with industry partners, one with PCMA at their Partner Conference in Chicago, and another with the Maritz Global Events leadership team in St Louis.
Back in Toronto, international & Canadian sales team members are focused on follow up and building out Toronto bid books, following last month's busy travel and events calendar.
Destination Services

TRAVEL TRADE
- April 13-17 & April 27-May 1: DT is supporting UK-based Premier Holidays with a series of independent fam programs for travel agents selling their UK Toronto programs.
- April 20-21: DT, in partnership with Air Canada and Canadatravel, is hosting a product educational fam tour for retail agents based in the Netherlands.
- April 20-23: Jetset Holidays, Air Transat and DT will host top UK-based agents on a product fam showcasing Jetset's Toronto City Break packages.
- April 24-26: DT is working with DC, Air Canada, DO and First Class Holidays on a "Canada Fest" travel agent training program for UK-based Canada Travel Specialists taking place in Toronto and Niagara Falls.
GLOBAL MARKETING
- Onboarding a new BE-focused MR/PR Agency to help support rebuilding our meetings & events business.
- Podcast recording with Empowering Workplaces, featuring Eatertainment - April 11.
- Podcast recording with Meetings Today, Q&A with Alicia Jenelle - April 14.
- Hosting MTL-based freelance writer on assignment for Edition Limitee/La Presse Chantal Lapointe - April 6-10.
- Hosting U.S.-based freelance writer Nylah Burton - April 1-2 and April 18-20.
- U.S. leisure campaign is in development with both creative and media agencies - a soft launch is set for this month.
- Now Playing Toronto’s Now You Know profile for April is The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery. Visit nowplayingtoronto.com to see the full profile.
- Campaign with Smart Meetings Magazine to feature the Cultures Remix campaign across their digital platform.
- Working with Ignite Magazine on an interactive and customized quiz which will let planners discover their Toronto Mix - Mid-April to mid-June.
- Continued 6ix stack attendance, marketing support planning and engagement for Q2 groups.
- Upcoming takeovers on social will feature: Toronto Blue Jays Home Opener, Hotel Lobby Bars, Cherry Blossom Season and Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA.
- Content hub spring seasonal content updates.
- Testing new consumer e-newsletter template.
- Terminal article: Tourism Week thought leadership Q&A with Scott.
- Terminal article: You Gotta See Q&A with Stanton.
- Drafting outline and collecting information for 2022 Annual Report.
DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT
- With the relaunch of our reinvigorated Membership Program, focus for April is on renewing as many of the past members as possible throughout April.
- Spring Briefing event on April 6 is a key opportunity to share with our stakeholders some of the major DT initiatives through spring and summer, and highlight ways businesses can leverage these initiatives to grow their own business through the visitor economy.
This month will see the new Destination Insights Platform go into a beta test with key stakeholders ahead of a broader rollout as a key part of our Business Intelligence strategy
