GLOBL JAM AT MATTAMY ATHLETIC CENTRE JULY 5-10

Set to take place in Toronto from July 5-10, GLOBL JAM will shine the international spotlight on the game’s rising stars and feature women’s and men’s teams from around the world competing in an Under-23 tournament live at Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally on Sportsnet.

Uniting fans on and off the court, GLOBL JAM will also feature festivities at Yonge-Dundas Square that celebrate the intersection of sport, art, and culture, as well as play host to the Canada Basketball 3x3 National Championships.

CITY OF TORONTO WELCOMES BACK COLLISION – NORTH AMERICA’S FASTEST GROWING TECH CONFERENCE

Collision, North America’s fastest-growing technology conference, returned in-person to Toronto June 20-23 at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place. The four-day event is the largest international in-person gathering in Toronto in more than two years.

In recognition of Collision, Mayor Tory proclaimed June 20 to 24 Digital Infrastructure Week, a week dedicated to learning more about the digital infrastructure that is increasingly used to deliver services, perform data-driven asset management, help manage public resources efficiently, and inform decision-making at the City.

CITY OF TORONTO LAUNCHES WASTE REDUCTION PROGRAM FOR BUSINESSES

The City of Toronto is taking a leadership role in addressing single-use waste with the launch of its latest ReduceWasteTO program – Reducing Single-Use. The new program is the first stage of the City’s Single-Use and Takeaway Items Reduction Strategy.
 
Through this program, the City will provide businesses with examples of simple actions that they can take to eliminate the unnecessary use of single-use and takeaway items. 
 
All Toronto businesses are encouraged to visit the City’s Reducing Single-Use & Takeaway Items webpage to find out what they can do to help reduce the unnecessary use of single-use and takeaway items in their operations.
 
Businesses already taking the initiative to reduce their waste from single-use and takeaway items are encouraged to complete the City’s new online survey by August 31 to share success stories and innovative business solutions to be included in the first edition of the online directory, which will be published at a later date.

TORONTO CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO ADVANCE EGLINTON EAST LRT AND WATERFRONT EAST LRT

Toronto City Council unanimously voted in support of advancing work on the Eglinton East Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Waterfront East LRT.

The Eglinton East LRT is a planned, 15-kilometre LRT running from Kennedy Station through the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) to Malvern, with up to 21 stops and connections to GO Transit. The new line will provide transit access to historically underserved communities, travel through or adjacent to seven Neighbourhood Improvement Areas and bring higher-order transit within walking distance of 49,000 Torontonians.

The City, TTC and Waterfront Toronto are designing the Waterfront East LRT, which will provide  rapid transit service to the East Bayfront area along Queens Quay, from Bay Street to Cherry Street, connecting north to the Distillery District and south to Commissioners Road. The line will provide improved transit to areas of significant existing and future development.
